Join us for the New Britain Museum of American Art’s first Chalk Art Festival!
This is a family-friendly, community-wide event where artists transform Walnut Hill Park Road with their art and creativity. Thanks to the generous support of the Art Bridges Foundation’s Access for All program, you and your family can enjoy free admission to the museum all day. At the Chalk Art Festival we want to highlight artists, providing a space to create and connect the community with the art of the city.
This event includes:
- Free admission to the Museum the whole day
- Live music by local bands and performers
- Ice cream truck - Seaside Creamery
- Art Activities (hat decorating & button making)
- Shared Community Drawing Zone & free chalk
- Free Parking in the Museum parking lot
- Feel free to bring lawn games/any park activities!
Event Schedule:
9:30 a.m. -11 a.m. Check-in & set up
11 a.m.-12 p.m. - Performance by Simone Dube
12 p.m.- 1 p.m. - Performance by Kat Lacombe
1 p.m.- 2 p.m. - Performance by Home by Ten
Artist Participation:
As an NBMAA chalk artist, YOU are the highlight of this event!
This event is an opportunity to put your art and creativity on display. Meet other artists, support the Museum's Access for All initiative, and engage with the community.
- The cost to participate is $15 (includes a ~10 foot square spot, chalk, straw hat, water). Pre-register or walk in (if spots are available).
- We provide Crayola Washable Sidewalk Chalk in 48 colors (these are approved by the City of New Britain and the ONLY chalk allowed at the event).
- You can bring knee pads, paint brushes, sunscreen, your inspiration, and creativity.
- Professional, upcoming, and student artists are encouraged to participate (artists can work in teams if they choose)
- Artwork must be appropriate for a family event.
- Can bring a 10' x 10' tent (larger tents are not allowed by Parks and Recs) for shade.
